Kubota MX4900HST Kubota LA1065 front loader Kubota skid steer quick attach Kubota R4 industrial tires

The MX4900HST is the entry point into Kubota's MX Series and one of the strongest values for acreage owners who need more tractor size, weight, stability, and loader capability than a compact tractor can provide. With 49.3 horsepower, hydrostatic transmission, and the LA1065 loader, it is built for livestock chores, round bales, driveway maintenance, pasture mowing, grading, material handling, and long-term property ownership.

MX4900HST Buyer Guide

The MX4900HST is often the first tractor buyers compare when they need a serious acreage machine but don't necessarily need the additional horsepower of the MX5400 or MX6000. If you're maintaining pasture, handling round bales, repairing driveways, mowing rough ground, moving dirt and gravel, or taking care of livestock property, these are the sections most buyers want to see before making a purchase.

Why Buyers Choose The MX4900 Decision Specs Comparison Guide Common Buyer Regrets Why Buy From Ravenscraft Price & Financing Land Pride Implements

Why The MX4900HST Tractor & Loader Is A Smart Buy

The Kubota MX4900HST is the smart-money MX for buyers who want the strength, frame size, loader capacity, and hydrostatic ease of the MX Series without paying for PTO horsepower they may not need. It shares the robust MX frame and LA1065 loader platform with the MX5400 and MX6000, making it one of the best-value tractors for Kansas acreage, livestock, driveway work, pasture mowing, material handling, and round bale work.

  • ✔ Same heavy MX-Series frame.
The MX4900 shares the robust MX platform used by the MX5400 and MX6000, giving you the size, stance, weight, and stability that make the MX Series such a popular acreage tractor.
  • ✔ Same LA1065 loader advantage.
For many buyers, loader capacity matters more than PTO horsepower. The MX4900 uses the same loader family as the larger MX models, giving you serious lift capability for gravel, dirt, pallets, manure, feed, brush, and bales.
  • ✔ Round bale capability without overbuying.
If you have animals now—or may have them in the future—the MX4900 hits a very practical sweet spot. With proper ballast and the right spear setup, it can handle many common round bale jobs while staying easy to maneuver around barns, lots, and feeding areas.
  • ✔ Largest-series feel with hydrostatic ease.
The MX4900 gives you the convenience of hydrostatic drive in a tractor big enough for real property work. No clutching, easy forward/reverse movement, and excellent control make it especially strong for loader work, mowing, grading, and chore use.
  • ✔ 6-foot implements can save thousands.
The MX4900 is properly matched with common 6-foot implements. Staying in this implement size range can save thousands compared with stepping into larger tractor and implement combinations.
  • ✔ Skid steer quick attach gives you room to grow.
The LA1065 loader lets you move beyond the standard bucket into pallet forks, grapples, bale spears, and other skid steer quick-attach tools as your needs change.
  • ✔ It saves money where it makes sense.
If you do not need the extra PTO horsepower of the MX5400 or MX6000, the MX4900 lets you keep the MX frame, loader strength, hydrostatic transmission, round bale flexibility, and overall capability while keeping more money in your pocket.

MX4900HST Decision Specs — What Buyers Actually Want To Know

These are the real-world numbers that matter most when comparing the MX4900HST: what it lifts, what it runs, how wide it is, what the tractor and loader weigh together, how long it can work on a tank of fuel, and why this tractor makes sense for Kansas acreage and livestock owners.

Engine Power
49.3 HP Kubota Diesel
Approx. 42 PTO HP
Plenty of power for 6-foot mowing, grading, loader work, livestock chores, and acreage maintenance.
Rotary Cutter Size
Excellent match for 6' cutters
Works very well with the Land Pride RCD1884 dual-spindle cutter
More mowing width without jumping into a large batwing setup.
LA1065 Loader Lift
Approx. 2,275 lbs at pivot pins
Approx. 1,850 lbs effective lift capacity
The number that matters for pallets, forks, feed, lumber, gravel, and many round bales.
Round Bale Capability
Major reason buyers move into the MX frame
Proper ballast required
Practical bale handling without stepping into a larger utility tractor.
Same MX Frame Advantage
Same robust MX-Series platform
Shared with MX5400 and MX6000
You are not stepping down to a smaller tractor frame.
Same Loader Platform
LA1065 loader family
Same practical loader advantage as larger MX models
Loader capacity is often more important than extra PTO horsepower.
Overall Width
Approx. 73 inches with R4 tires
Stable but still manageable
Good fit for gates, barns, driveways, lots, and pasture work.
Tractor + Loader Weight
Approx. 5,000 lbs ready to work
Major advantage over smaller compact tractors
Weight gives the MX4900 traction, stability, loader confidence, and a more planted feel.
Hydraulic Flow
Approx. 15.8 GPM total flow
Strong loader and attachment performance
Good match for loader work, grapples, hydraulic attachments, and chore use.
Fuel Consumption
Approx. 0.8–1.5 gallons per hour
Depends on workload
Mowing, grading, loader work, and heavy PTO use will vary.
Fuel Tank & Runtime
Approx. 13.5 gallon fuel tank
Often 8–14 hours per tank
Plenty for long acreage workdays.
Overall Length
Approx. 135 inches with loader installed
Capable but still maneuverable
Works well around barns, lots, gates, and driveways.
Optional Cutter Upgrade — RCD1884 Dual-Spindle Cutter

The MX4900HST works very well with the Land Pride RCD1884 dual-spindle cutter. For buyers wanting more mowing width than a standard 6-foot cutter without stepping into a large batwing setup, the RCD1884 is a very practical upgrade.

Why it matters: more width, fewer passes, faster pasture maintenance, and a wider cutting solution while still keeping the tractor easy to operate.
Why The MX4900HST Hits The Sweet Spot

The MX4900HST gives buyers the heavy MX-Series chassis, LA1065 loader platform, hydrostatic transmission, and real loader usefulness shared with the larger MX models. The big difference is PTO horsepower.

If you do not need the additional PTO horsepower of the MX5400 or MX6000, the MX4900HST can save thousands while still giving you the frame, loader, ballast-friendly weight, round bale flexibility, and 6-foot implement capability many buyers actually need.
Our Tire Recommendation — R4 Industrial Tires

Most MX4900 buyers choose R4 industrial tires because they are a strong match for loader work, gravel driveways, mixed acreage use, hay yards, barns, livestock lots, and general property maintenance.

R1 Ag tires can be a better fit for primary field work and soft soil traction, but for most Kansas acreage owners doing loader work, mowing, grading, and driveway maintenance, the R4 tire is usually the more practical all-around choice.

We generally prefer the heavier sidewall feel and durability characteristics of traditional R4 industrial tires for Kansas properties with hedge, honey locust, crushed limestone, brush, sharp rock, gravel roads, and heavy loader work.
Popular Land Pride Implements & Loader Attachments

PFL3048 3,000 lb Pallet Forks
One of the most useful attachments for moving pallets, lumber, logs, feed, seed, pipe, totes, and building materials.

BS10 Bale Spear
A common choice for round bale handling when paired with proper rear ballast and safe loader setup.

72" SGC1072 Claw Grapple
Excellent for brush, limbs, cleanup work, storm debris, tree rows, and rough property cleanup. Requires 3rd function valve.
Real-World Summary

The MX4900HST tractor and loader is the right fit when you want MX-Series frame size, LA1065 loader capability, hydrostatic operation, round bale flexibility, and practical 6-foot implement capability without quickly outgrowing the tractor.

It gives you the core capability of the MX platform while allowing you to choose the Land Pride implements and loader attachments that best match your property and the work you actually need to do.

Common MX4900HST Buyer Regrets To Think About Before You Buy

Most MX4900HST buyers are happy because the tractor gives them the MX frame, LA1065 loader capability, hydrostatic ease, round bale flexibility, and 6-foot implement capability without forcing them to pay for horsepower they may not need. The regrets usually come from setup choices, attachment choices, tire decisions, ballast, or not thinking far enough into the future.

  • ✔ Regret #1: Not realizing how much tractor the MX4900 actually is.
Some buyers compare horsepower numbers and assume the MX4900 is only slightly different from smaller tractors like the L4802. The horsepower may look close, but the MX4900 is a larger MX-Series machine with more frame, more loader confidence, more operating weight, and more future flexibility.
  • ✔ Regret #2: Focusing too much on horsepower.
Horsepower is easy to compare, but it is not always the number that matters most. In relatively flat South Central Kansas terrain, many acreage owners find the MX4900 has plenty of PTO power for 6-foot mowing and property maintenance. What they usually need more than extra horsepower is loader capacity, tractor weight, stability, round bale capability, and a tractor that feels planted.
  • ✔ Regret #3: Not thinking about future livestock or round bales.
Many buyers do not own animals the day they buy the tractor. A few years later they may have horses, cattle, goats, sheep, hay feeding, fencing projects, manure work, or round bales to move. If livestock is even a possibility, the MX4900 gives you more room to grow than a smaller tractor.
  • ✔ Regret #4: Underestimating how important ballast is for loader work.
The LA1065 loader is a strong loader, but safe real-world lifting depends on rear ballast, tire setup, attachment weight, terrain, and load center. If you plan to move round bales, pallets, gravel, totes, or heavy materials, proper ballast is not optional—it is part of making the tractor perform correctly and safely.
  • ✔ Regret #5: Focusing only on pin lift instead of effective lift.
Loader brochures often advertise lift capacity at the pivot pins. The number buyers should really focus on is usable lift capacity with pallet forks, bale spears, grapples, and real-world loads. That is why we discuss approximately 1,850 lbs of effective lift capacity instead of pretending every load sits directly at the pivot pins.
  • ✔ Regret #6: Not comparing the L4802 and MX5400 closely enough.
The L4802 may be close in price, but the MX4900 gives you much more tractor. The MX5400 gives you more PTO horsepower, but the MX4900 shares the same MX frame and LA1065 loader platform. The smart question is not just “Which one has more horsepower?” It is “Which tractor gives me the capability I will actually use?”
  • ✔ Regret #7: Waiting too long to buy pallet forks.
Ask enough tractor owners and you will hear the same thing: pallet forks are often the attachment they wish they had purchased sooner. Moving lumber, fencing materials, pallets, seed, feed, logs, equipment, totes, and supplies becomes dramatically easier once forks are added.
  • ✔ Regret #8: Not adding a bale spear if animals are in the plan.
If you have livestock now, or think you may have livestock later, a bale spear should be part of the conversation early. The MX4900 has the frame and loader platform to be a practical bale-handling tractor when properly ballasted and set up correctly.
  • ✔ Regret #9: Not choosing the right tire for the property.

Most MX4900 buyers choose R4 industrial tires because they are a strong match for loader work, gravel driveways, livestock operations, barns, mixed acreage use, and general property maintenance.

R1 agricultural tires provide more bite in soft field conditions, but many South Central Kansas acreage owners spend more time on gravel, hard ground, barns, lots, driveways, and mixed-use property than they do in primary tillage or deep field work.

While R14T hybrid tires have gained popularity because of their traction characteristics, we generally do not recommend them for many of the conditions commonly found in South Central Kansas.

Kansas properties often include hedge trees, honey locust, crushed limestone, field rock, gravel roads, brush, and rough pasture conditions. These conditions can be extremely hard on tractor tires.

One concern we have with the R14T is its thinner sidewall construction compared to a traditional R4 industrial tire. That thinner, more flexible sidewall can help traction and ride quality, but it can also create a softer feel when carrying heavy loader loads, operating on side slopes, or working in rough terrain.

Some owners also report concerns about puncture resistance when working around thorns, brush, hedge, locust, sharp rock, and other hazards commonly found on Kansas acreage properties.

For buyers doing heavy loader work, handling round bales, moving pallets, maintaining gravel driveways, and operating in rough conditions, we generally prefer the heavier sidewall construction and durability characteristics of an R4 industrial tire.

For most acreage owners in South Central Kansas, the R4 industrial tire remains our most commonly recommended all-around tire choice.
  • ✔ Regret #10: Not adding a grapple and 3rd function valve when ordering.
If you have hedge rows, brush piles, storm cleanup, tree limbs, fence rows, or rough property cleanup, a grapple quickly becomes one of the most useful attachments you can own. Many owners eventually add one and wish they had done it from the beginning.
  • ✔ Regret #11: Not matching the implements from day one.
A tractor is only as useful as the tools behind it. The MX4900 is well matched with implements such as the Land Pride QH16 Quick Hitch, BB2572 72" Box Blade, and RCR1872 72" Rotary Cutter. Choosing the right implements from the beginning saves time, reduces frustration, and lets you build the tractor around the work your property actually requires.
  • ✔ Regret #12: Spending more than necessary if PTO horsepower is not the issue.
The MX5400 is a great tractor, but not every buyer needs the extra PTO horsepower. If your work is mostly loader chores, livestock feeding, driveway maintenance, grading, pallet forks, bale handling, and 6-foot implements on mostly flat Kansas ground, the MX4900 may give you the capability you need while keeping thousands of dollars in your pocket.

Why Buy Your MX4900HST Tractor & Loader From Ravenscraft?

At Ravenscraft Implement, buying an MX4900HST is not just about choosing a tractor and loader. It is about making sure the tractor, loader, tires, ballast, attachments, and future implements all make sense for the way you actually plan to use the machine.

  • ✔ In business since 1962.
Ravenscraft Implement has been serving Kansas farmers, ranchers, acreage owners, and property owners for generations. We are a local dealership with deep roots in Whitewater, Wichita, and South Central Kansas.
  • ✔ Guidance from real equipment experience.
Third-generation owner Dan Ravenscraft started assembling implements at a young age and worked his way up from the ground. That experience matters when you are deciding between horsepower, loader capacity, tire choices, hydrostatic drive, round bale capability, and implement sizing.
  • ✔ We help you build the tractor around the work.
The MX4900HST and LA1065 loader are only the beginning. We can help you choose the right ballast, tires, pallet forks, bale spear, grapple, 3rd function valve, quick hitch, mower, box blade, or other Land Pride implements based on what your property actually requires.
  • ✔ We focus on decision specs, not brochure specs.
Customers want to know what it will lift and what it will run, whether the MX4900 is enough tractor, whether they should step up to an MX5400 or MX6000, how much loader capacity matters, and what they may regret later. Those are the conversations we want to have before you buy.
  • ✔ We spend our money the same way you do.
A tractor is a serious investment. We want you to buy enough tractor to be happy long term, but we also do not want you spending money on PTO horsepower, tires, attachments, or implements you do not actually need.
  • ✔ We can build the right Land Pride setup around your MX4900.
Whether you need a rotary cutter, box blade, quick hitch, pallet forks, bale spear, grapple, grading tool, or another attachment, we can match the implement to the tractor instead of leaving you to guess what size or weight class belongs behind it.
  • ✔ Delivery available within 100 miles of Whitewater, Kansas.
We regularly serve customers around Wichita, Newton, El Dorado, Augusta, Andover, Derby, Hutchinson, and surrounding South Central Kansas communities.
  • ✔ Our goal is for you to still feel right about the purchase years later.
The best sale is not the fastest sale. It is the one where the tractor, loader, tires, transmission, attachments, and implements still make sense after years of ownership.
